Career Paths within the Modular Construction Industry
The modular construction process brings over half a project’s construction into an indoor factory setting for prefabrication and assembly. Career opportunities in modular construction are available in both traditional skilled trades and professional roles across the modular construction process.
Career paths in the factory include roles within accounting, administration, assembly/production line, design, HR, IT, marketing, purchasing, quality control, safety, sales, service, and more. Field work and on-site career paths include estimating, project management, site safety, transportation, setting and installation, and more. Traditional skilled trades like carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, drywall, tile, and painting are always in demand both in factories and on-site.
The modular construction industry offers a myriad of career paths. In addition to more traditional construction, plumbing, and electrical roles, digital design, engineering, and automation are critical.

Entry-level designers in modular construction in North America can earn around $60,000, while mid-level designers who have developed some leadership experience can earn over $80,000.
Estimator
Estimators prepare cost estimates for the construction, alteration, and/or repair of modular buildings and structures. They assess cost effectiveness of products and services, track actual costs as the project develops, and collaborate with staff across departments to formulate estimates and resolve issues. They also prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation.
Entry-level estimators have a beginning to working subject matter knowledge, handle basic issues and problems, refer more complex issues to higher-level staff, and typically perform work under direct supervision.
