Kalesnikoff Unveils 'Mass Timber Classroom'
Canada-based Kalesnikoff Mass Timber is unveiling new "modular timber classrooms."
The new niche, per the company, aims to fill a need for speedy construction and refurbishment at schools across North America.
“Many communities in North America are growing, leaving local schools at capacity. These new modulars can be built and deployed rapidly, are cost effective, and create a warm and exceptional learning environment for students and staff,” said Chris Kalesnikoff, President and CEO of Kalesnikoff. “We’re excited to showcase this classroom here at the conference and then to other educators and decision-makers – we think this is the way of the future.”
“Given the rising costs and other challenges of traditional construction, and ongoing labor shortages, these modular classrooms – like modular housing – are generating a lot of interest,” said Kalesnikoff.
Kalesnikoff says its mass timber classrooms can be configured as a single classroom or combined for an expansion—or even as a complete new school, in a single story or stacked format. The classrooms are designed for timely assembly, delivery and site installation and are complete with digital, heating and plumbing pre-installed.
Constructed of cross-laminated timber (CLT) from Kalesnikoff’s own mass timber facility in the West Kootenays, the modulars feature CLT floors, walls, and ceiling.
