Modular Building Institute's Second Annual World of Modular Europe Conference Draws Global Leaders to Madrid

Historic agreement establishes MBI Italia as MBI's first European chapter

The Modular Building Institute (MBI) concluded its second annual World of Modular Europe Conference in Madrid, bringing together nearly 200 industry leaders from 29 countries for three days of innovation and collaboration, forging strategic partnerships that are reshaping the future of construction across Europe.

The event marked a watershed moment for the modular construction industry with the signing of a historic agreement establishing MBI Italia, the Institute's first official European association chapter. MBI Executive Director Tom Hardiman joined Italian industry leaders for the ceremony, signaling a major expansion of the organization's international presence.

"This agreement represents more than a milestone, it's a blueprint for how we're building the future of modular construction across Europe," said Hardiman. "MBI Italia will serve as a catalyst for innovation, advocacy and growth throughout the region."

The conference featured keynote presentations from industry visionaries, dynamic networking sessions, and the presentation of prestigious awards recognizing outstanding contributions to modular construction:

  • Volunteer of the Year Award: Bostjan Jevsek, International Business Development Director with PivaGroup Spa and MBI Board member, was honored for his exceptional dedication to advancing modular construction and expanding MBI's European mission.
  • Best of Show – Permanent Modular Construction: Vision Modular Systems UK Limited, in collaboration with MJH Structural Engineers and Tide Construction, received top honors for "The Glassworks, Greenford Quay," a groundbreaking project showcasing the potential of permanent modular construction in the UK market.
  • Best of Show – Relocatable Building: MODULAR PLUS SRL earned recognition for the "NATO Advanced Defense Technologies Training Center" in Romania, demonstrating the versatility and strategic value of relocatable modular structures.

Attendees explored emerging opportunities spanning modular design, manufacturing and development while forging partnerships that transcend borders and market segments.

"World of Modular Europe has evolved into an essential platform for MBI to engage with industry leaders and amplify our impact across the continent," said Justin Morris, Vice President of Titan Modular Systems and Secretary of the MBI Board of Directors. "This year's exceptionally well-organized event delivered valuable insights and connections that will drive the global modular industry forward for years to come."

Bostjan Jevsek added: "World of Modular Europe brings together the entire ecosystem—from pan-European manufacturers to international partners, architects, developers, financial institutions, government agencies, and policymakers. It's not just a conference; it's where the future of construction is being written."

World of Modular Europe reinforces MBI's commitment to expanding modular construction through advocacy, education, and community engagement. As the industry continues to address critical challenges in housing, sustainability, and construction efficiency, events like this conference serve as vital catalysts for innovation and collaboration.
