MBI Offers Introductory Class on Commercial Modular Construction

Modular Building Institute (MBI) reintroduced its “Introduction to Commercial Modular Construction” training program in December. The training was held in Dallas and attracted a wide range of participants from the United States, Canada, and Ecuador. They included participants from MBI’s membership, non-member construction companies, and industry suppliers. The class covered the aspects of understanding modular construction, requirements for installations, how to work with code enforcement departments, the various types of Building Classifications, and the difference between permanent and temporary modular projects.

 

Instructor Mike Aldrich, who himself has over 20 years of experience in modular construction, praised the event and the attendees. “It was a great event with a lot of interaction and participation from the team. We’re looking forward to continuing in 2020 with additional classes.”

 

Stepping Outside the Classroom

In addition to the classroom work, Devin Duvak, General Manager of Indicom Buildings, was kind enough to host the class for a factory tour. He and his team spent a morning showing us how units are fabricated from design to completion. Attendees also learned the importance of communication between the estimating department and the client to keep everything moving smoothly.

 

The class was also introduced to Suzann Robinson, Executive with Satellite Shelters and a member of MBI’s Development Committee. She stopped by to talk with the class and share MBI’s mission, vision, and values.

 

“I am so pleased MBI is offering their live trainings again,” said Robinson. “The class is offered electronically, but the interaction and diversity of the attendees makes the class worth the time! After the class, one of the attendees called me and said it was fantastic and that he really learned a lot. And the factory visit was definitely a highlight.”
