Panel Built Invests In Workforce Development To Support Future U.S. Manufacturing Jobs
Panel Built announced an expanded investment in workforce development through structured Work-Based Learning (WBL) and internship programs to prepare the next generation of skilled manufacturing professionals in North Georgia.
The Blairsville, Georgia-based company said the initiative comes as manufacturers across the United States face mounting labor shortages driven by retirements in the skilled trades. Industry estimates cited by the company project that manufacturers will need approximately 2.1 million new workers by 2030, while the American Welding Society estimates that 320,500 new welders will be needed by 2029.
Panel Built partners with local schools to provide students with hands-on experience across manufacturing, engineering, and business operations. The company said the program is designed to support long-term workforce stability while strengthening the regional economy.
Under the WBL and internship programs, students work directly within company operations as paid employees and complete the same onboarding process as full-time hires. Participants contribute across departments including engineering, drafting, shipping, customer service, IT, marketing, and sales.
The company noted that many students continue working with Panel Built throughout college, particularly in welding and engineering positions that often transition into full-time careers. Students also participate in regional Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) initiatives, career development events, and mock interviews intended to prepare them for professional environments.
Panel Built works with Union County High School and Fannin County High School to identify and prepare students for the program.
Kerri Bradshaw, Coordinator for Union County High School’s CTAE and Work-Based Learning programs, said the breadth of opportunities distinguishes the initiative.
Panel Built said workforce development remains a key component of its long-term strategy as the company seeks to strengthen both its internal talent pipeline and the broader industries it serves.
