Architectural Excellence

Alberton serves as an excellent example of how modular building played a crucial role in this project. Due to the shortage of skilled trades in PEI, particularly in rural areas, Kent Homes was brought in to help complete the project for our customer 720 Solutions Inc. This collaboration significantly reduced turnaround time for the rural community of Alberton, PEI, allowing us to finish the construction of 10 modular units in just 11 months.

The two-story apartment, spanning 6,146 square feet over an unfinished crawlspace, features 10 studio and one-bedroom units, a common laundry area, and a 450-square-foot office. The 10-unit apartment building in Alberton was essential for the final client, the Canadian Mental Health Association, which needed additional affordable housing to support its existing rural operations.

Technical Innovation & Sustainability

Our green building practices mean less waste and more recycling, savings we pass on to our customers. The project exceeds requirements under the 2015 NBC by 20% for energy efficiency. Kent Homes environmentally friendly practices include:

  • Our manufacturing process recycles materials and reduces waste.
  • Tight construction and special framing reduce internal leaks and draft.
  • Fresh air ventilation reduces dust, odors and indoor contaminants.
  • Heat recovery and ventilation systems, vents and pressure balancing reduce moisture.
  • Energy-efficient lighting reduces energy consumption.
  • Drywall and insulation are made of safely recycled material.

Cost Effectiveness

Kent Homes and 720 Solutions Inc. share a strong, enduring partnership. By leveraging the experience of pervious projects, the overall design phase was shortened by 2 months.

Cost effectiveness primarily hinges on the efficiency with which tasks were accomplished for the project. With the modules leaving the facility 80% complete, as well as the ability to place the structure onto the foundation within two days, and ensuring that the building is fully weather-tight within a week. In the rural community of Alberton, PEI - it was a significant accomplishment.
