Geary Pacific Corporation
Born and raised in Minnesota, Maury Tiernan has been serving the commercial modular and school industry for the majority of his 41 years with Geary Pacific Corporation.
According to Maury, on his way to a BA degree, he received an AA degree in Fine Arts and Business Management before working on his PhD in Fatherhood. This started when he became a single parent of a 4, 6, and 8-year old. Maury was the Girls Scout leader for his daughters and coached soccer on his son’s team.
He entered the Air Force in 1969 and served 5 years at the end of the Vietnam Era, as a jet mechanic reaching the rank of Staff Sargent.
Maury married Sharon Hockmuth in 1986 and combined their two families, now with five children and 18 grandchildren.
Maury was on the MBI Board for six years and served as its president in 1997. Maury has previously written a column, The Comfort Zone, on HVAC concerns for the Modular Building Institute’s bimonthly magazine “Commercial Modular Construction.” To this day, articles Maury wrote for the industry over a decade ago are still among the top 10 most visited sites on modular.org.
Maury has continued his service to the industry as a past president of the Modular Building Institute Educational Foundation (MBIEF), and sits as a current trustee of that Foundation. In fact, he is the longest serving member of the MBI Educational Foundation Board of Trustees and the only person to serve continuously since its inception.
Maury was the recipient of MBI’s Outstanding Achievement Award in 2000 and the 2004 MBI Executive Directors Volunteer of the Year Award. He was actively involved in shaping the ANSI classroom acoustic standard for relocatable classrooms as well as working on the CHPS relocatable manual.
Always interested in talking about anything HVAC, Maury was one of the cornerstones of MBI’s Modular 101 training program, writing and teaching the section on HVAC. Maury currently co-instructs a two-day Bard technical training class for school district maintenance personnel and modular industry personnel at Cypress College, Cypress, Ca sponsored by Bard Mfg and Geary Pacific Corp.
In his spare time, when he’s not talking about HVAC, Maury collects Lionel Trains. At his church, he organized a 100 parishioner maintenance ministry and was awarded the 2012 Faithful Steward award. He now sits as the chair of the Parish Council.
Known as the “Bardguy” Maury supports and services the HVAC equipment and supply needs of school districts, modular dealers, manufacturers, engineers and architects as the Bard Product Manager for GEARY PACIFIC CORPORATION, a wholesale distributor in the western United States.
Always reliable and dependable, and always willing to share his expertise with the industry, it is our honor to induct Maury Tiernan into MBI’s Hall of Fame for 2016!
